Bluemercury's Marla Beck on the Power of Vitamin C

Vitamin C is certainly having it’s moment in the spotlight right now, but Marla Beck co-founder of beauty giant and industry pioneer, Bluemercury, has been singing the miracle ingredient’s praises for years. The brainiac skincare queen recently expanded her best selling skincare range, M-61 to include an incredible new M-61 Vitablast C Face Oil that is already getting rave reviews for skin care mavens everywhere. We chatted to the beauty boss about all things Vitamin C.

Congratulations on the new product! What sparked inspiration!?
MB: I always say if I could give everyone one anti-aging beauty tip, it would be to incorporate vitamin C into their skincare routines. The Vitablast C range has really become one of our best-selling collections within the M-61 Powerful Skincare range for the ingredients amazing, multi-purpose benefits. I want to give women as many ways as possible to incorporate this ingredient into their routine.

Also, I am always up for a challenge and this is the first-to-market face oil with a stabilized percentage of vitamin C, 10%, which is something we are very proud of.

You always discuss the benefits of Vitamin C, tell us some!
MB: Vitamin C has so many wonderful benefits that women of all ages are looking for, like brightening, evening the skin tone, collagen-building and protecting against environmental aggressors. We all want to do away with dull skin, especially as we head into spring and summer.

Why do you think there's such a big Vitamin C trend right now?
MB: I think many people are just now realizing what a powerful ingredient vitamin C can be. When we launched M-61 Powerful Skincare in 2012, our original lineup included the now best-selling Vitablast C Serum – we’ve always believed in the power of vitamin C. Since then we’ve evolved and expanded the Vitablast C range to include a moisturizer and more importantly, the first ever Vitamin C Serum Pad. It took me years to create this product. I wanted a pure, potent vitamin c serum in a pad to preserve the potency of vitamin c and make it easy for our busy customers to travel with them and throw them into their gym bag.

What order should people apply their Vitamin C products in?
MB: After cleansing, I would use the serum or serum pad and then either the Vitablast C oil or the Vitablast C moisturizer, depending on your texture preference.

What other beauty trends are exciting you right now?
MB: As customers are becoming savvier about their skincare and the many environmental stressors we face daily like UVA / UVB rays, air pollution, and blue light, we’re seeing a lot of new launches dedicated to fighting these elements, as they’re something we face year-round from snow to sunshine. M-61 Vitablast C Face Oil helps fight these stressors, while also helping to repair existing damage like dark spots, so we are excited that it fits seamlessly into this upcoming trend.
