These D.C.-Area Chefs Were Just Named James Beard Award Finalists

The finalists for the 2018 James Beard Awards have finally been announced, and the long list of contenders include several D.C. chefs.

Jeremiah Langhorne of The Dabney is a top contender for the Best Chef Mid-Atlantic James Beard Award.

The Best Chef Mid-Atlantic category has the most D.C.-area chefs, which include Bad Saint's Tom Cunanan (named to a plethora of best restaurants list from Bon Appetit to the Washington Post), The Dabney's Jeremiah Langhorne, and Centrolina's Amy Brandwein.

José Andrés will receive this year's Humanitarian of the Year award for assisting in disaster relief efforts in Puerto Rico, where he served over 3 million meals to people in need.

Other notable D.C.-area finalists include The Cooking Gene author Michael Twitty, the Washington Post's Tom Sietsema, and local TV personality Pati Jinich, who was nominated for her WETA program "Pati's Mexican Table."

The James Beard Foundation will announce media winners at its New York City awards ceremony on April 27, and its restaurant winners on May 7 in Chicago. Click here for the full list of James Beard Award finalists.
