By Kate Oczypok | February 7, 2019 | Food & Drink

Galentine’s Day, made popular by the television show Parks and Recreation, is an unofficial holiday honoring your closest female friends. Typically celebrated every February 13, the day is a great excuse to head out to a new restaurant for a fun girl’s night. Here are six great places for a fabulous Galentine’s Day.

The Gibson

If you want to spend a sophisticated night out in a speakeasy-like atmosphere, the U Street neighborhood’s Gibson is ideal. The self-proclaimed “pre-Prohibition-inspired cocktail lounge,” serves classic cocktails mixed in with original concoctions. Cocktails, including the “Le Jeaune Americaine,” are part of a seasonal menu. Winter’s options have fun names such as “Thermal Leggings, Mohair Sweater” and “Nordic Spa Treatment.” Food options are small but delicious bar bites (cheeses, chicken sliders, roasted nuts, and olives). 2009 14th St. NW, Washington, D.C., 202-232-2156

Nellie’s weekend drag brunch is an entertaining way to celebrate Galentine’s Day with your ladies. La Jambe

If your crew are self-professed winos, this French wine bar with locations in Shaw and Union Market is a cozy place to celebrate. There are multiple sparkling rosés, red wines, and white wines on the menu, as well as a small menu of comfort food from French onion soup to grilled cheese. La Jambe also has a to die for crepe-heavy dessert menu and cheese selection. 1550 7th St. NW, Washington, D.C.; 1309 5th St. NE, Washington, D.C., 202-627-2988

Tryst is the perfect place to celebrate Galentine's Day, if you're with a laid-back group of friends. The eclectic coffeehouse, bar, and lounge in Adams Morgan serves Counter Culture Coffee in a homey setting. Non-coffee options like hot mulled cider or lavender hot chocolate are great for curling up for a long afternoon of catching up. 2459 18th St. NW, Washington, D.C., 202-232-5500

Bourbon Steak’s “Bourbon on Ice”
