Treat mom to day of activities with a visit to one of these five great places in D.C. on Mother's Day.
The Michelin-starred Blue Duck Tavern is serving seasonal American classics this Mother’s Day. Brunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a three-course, prix fixe menu priced at $125 per person for adults, $55 for children between the ages of six and 12, and kids under five are free. Blue Duck will be offering starters, such as a delicious bone marrow with fried basil and pistachio gremolata charred lemon. Treat mom to a NY Prime strip as her entrée, served with broccoli crème, roasted scallion, and red wine jus, and conclude with a variety of desserts pastry kitchen. 1201 24th St. NW, 202-419-6755
Mom will love brunch at the Hay Adams, just across from the White House. At “Top of the Hay,” your meal is paired with incredible views. Notable dishes featured in the classic Mother’s Day buffet include a trofie pasta with confit grilled vegetables, olive oil, and basil pesto. There’s also a soba noodle and shrimp salad with ponzu-citrus dressing, perfect for the (finally!) warmer weather. End your meal with a decadent chocolate chiffon cake with espresso buttercream or a Virginia rhubarb upside down cake. 800 16th St. NW, 202-638-6600
Mom will enjoy shopping at the luxurious mecca of upscale boutiques in D.C. Stop by Kate Spade for some colorful spring accessories or Carolina Herrera for a new dress. There’s also Longchamp if you know mom is in the market for a new bag. Other stores include Gucci, Ferragamo, and Hermés, among others. Don’t forget to stop at the Instagram-worthy CCDC kites in Palmer Alley. 825 10th St. NW, 202-289-9000
Cruise on Mother’s Day evening with Spirit Cruises. From 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., enjoy a private table with views of the monuments and other D.C. sights. There’s also onboard entertainment with DJ music and interactive games. All moms get a complimentary drink and flower. Dinner is served buffet style, with entrees such as honey and sesame chicken, and oven-baked Atlantic cod fillet. Top your meal off with a light lemon pound cake and strawberries or caramel apple bread pudding. 600 Water St. SW, 202-479-4577
History-loving mothers will adore spending their special day at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. The home’s gorgeous gardens are typically in full bloom by May. Martha Washington will be giving lavender sachets to all moms while supplies last. Families can end the day with Mother’s Day dinner at the Mount Vernon Inn from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Traditional brunch items as well as flavors of early America will be served. 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Hwy., Mount Vernon, VA 22121
