Barbecue & Grilling Week will return July 16 and continue through July 22 offering themed dishes at fixed prices of either $11, $22, or $33. Here are some great places to celebrate all that is grilled, smoked, or spiced.
The sophisticated Mexican restaurant is serving smoked pork jowl tacos for an appetizer and for an entrée, a delicious hibiscus and mezcal smoke salmon with horseradish and beet crema with avocado. Pair them with strong and tasty cocktails like the “Oaxacan Zombie,” with mezcal, grapefruit and reed dry spiced rum. 1250 9th St. NW, 202-621-9695
This I Street steakhouse is more formal upstairs, with a basement tavern for burgers and beer. For their BBQ and Grilling Week lunch, there’s a Southern “Bahn Mi” Sandwich made with Carolina BBQ sauce and dry aged pork shoulder. Dinner options include yellow chili barbecue Cornish game hen with mac and cheese and pickles. For dessert, there’s a refreshing strawberry hibiscus lemonade popsicle. 1595 I St. NW, 202-800-9994
The Cleveland Park restaurant is also participating in Barbecue and Grilling Week, offering a three-course meal. Start off with a smoked chicken egg roll with Carolina mustard sauce. For the main course, try the Texas-style smoked dry-aged brisket on thick open-faced brioche with flavor so amazing you’ll want to lick your fingers. End your meal with house-made ice cream or sorbet. 2404 Wisconsin Ave. NW, 202-333-4304
This modern Chinese and Korean restaurant usually serves food from a counter as well as a tasting bar. For their barbecue specials, they’ll be making their Chinese BBQ Iberico ribs with smoked catfish fried rice and Sichuan pickles. Stick around for desserts like sour orange sorbet with berries. 423 8th St. SE, 202-558-9934
The popular barbecue joint will be running an $11 special for lunch or dinner. The Texas-style brisket sandwich is piled high with thick-cut brisket on a toasted hoagie roll with melted swiss cheese. There’s also an option to top the sandwich with caramelized onions and horseradish cream. Included in the special is one side and one drink. 2418 Wisconsin Ave., 202-333-2558
This Chinatown Southern and Asian inspired eatery will be making their pulled mushroom barbecue with Johnny cakes and bok choy slaw. There will also be an option of smoked brisket barbecue with Korean kalbi sauce, kimchi and corn relish lettuce wraps. Paired with cocktails like the Hey Peaches (frozen bourbon, peach, iced tea and lemonade), Succotash is a noteworthy summertime spot. 915 F St. NW, 202-783-8212
